JLSJ President Lisa Hague

Welcome to the Junior League of San Jose’s website! We are an organization of over 700 women committed to making a difference in our community. Our members have been making San Jose a better place to work, live and raise a family for over 40 years, and we continue to make an impact today.

The mission of the Junior League of San Jose is to promote voluntarism, develop the potential of women and improve the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. We focus all of our volunteer time and financial assistance on our Community Program -- helping young children enter elementary school ready to learn and thrive.

JLSJ is an exciting, growing organization, and is constantly seeking new members who are passionate about improving the community. If you are interested in making a difference, and making new friends while you become a trained volunteer, we would like to hear from you!

Here are just a few of the great reasons to consider joining JLSJ:

  • JLSJ offers its members exceptional training and leadership opportunities. A large number of our members become leaders in other non-profits, businesses and government in the Bay Area.
  • JLSJ is part of something even bigger! We are a member of the Association of Junior Leagues International, Inc. (www.ajli.org), an organization of over 170,000 members in 293 Leagues located in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the United Kingdom.
  • JLSJ provides its members the chance to explore different projects, internal administrative roles, fundraising opportunities, and more.
  • We collaborate with other nonprofits in the Bay Area, and provide them with volunteers and financing for periods from one day to several years. JLSJ offers a variety of ways for members to improve our community, so each member can find a program that appeals to her:
    • We are entering the fourth year of collaboration with the Children’s Discovery Museum in developing and expanding the Wonder Cabinet at the Children’s Discovery Museum. This project is dedicated to inspiring young explorers to build, create, listen, look, play and laugh.
    • We are in our third year of expanding the “First Teachers Training” project with the Bring Me A Book Foundation. In this collaboration, we teach “first teachers” (parents and caregivers) how to read to their children, helping them in school and life.
    • We sponsor short term projects with local nonprofit organizations through our Done-In-A-Day Committee. Done-In-A-Day provides volunteers and funding in a high-impact, low-cost manner.

If you are interested in joining JLSJ, or think you might be interested, please contact us at jlsjrecruiting@yahoo.com or call our office at 408.264.3058.

I encourage you to take the step today to join JLSJ. You’ll be glad you did!

Yours in Service,
Lisa Hague
President
